The Home Theatre System to Beat

Looking for ways to set up a home theatre system that will not be tacky and overstated?  Any home with the space to have a dedicated home theatre room will want this room to convey the luxury associated with home theatre. The challenge is how to make this room function with all of the technical equipment and still provide a room of elegance and design which looks like a home theatre not a theatre in a home!

To maximize the effects of a home entertainment system, you should definitely consider setting it up in a room of its own.  This way, the correct attention to the technical aspects of the room can be given so as to isolate the theatre from the rest of the home. This is especially important when you are entertaining guests in other parts of the house.

Lighting inside your theatre room is an important aspect.  The best light fittings are recessed (those that are housed inside cylindrical  holes in the ceiling).  You will also need to install dimmers to have control over the amount of light you want whenever you are watching inside.
The flooring of your theatre room should be similar to that of a real movie theatre; padded but easy to clean.  Remember that the sounds bounce off tiles in a different manner than carpeted floors and walls, so you should only use floor coverings that absorb sound not reflect it.  If you are unsure of the acoustics in the room you have chosen, consult a professional.

Additionally, carpets will allow people to move about without disturbing the other people watching. Also, you might want to lay dark coloured carpets because you will be bringing drinks and food inside and you do not want to worry too much about stains.

Your walls and ceiling should also be dark to avoid reflections from the television or screen. If you are not padding or insulating the walls, you may choose instead to install curtains that can be drawn across as necessary.

Lastly, the furniture inside your home theatre room should ether be suede or leather and should be as comfortable as the seats in a real movie theatre.  They should be wide and cushioned very well and you may want to have the ones that carry cup holders.  Otherwise, you may opt for reclining chairs if the theatre type chairs are too bulky.

Where the idea of a separate room for a dedicated home theatre is the ideal, not all homes have this space. In this instance, some creative design and custom joinery is essential.

When it comes to housing all of the equipment, this is a very technical and important task. Custom made joinery will always be the best solution for the home theatre. Pre fabricated or modular joinery will not provide for adequate ventilation for amplifiers, Foxtel boxes and other digital equipment which gets very hot.

Custom made joinery can provide for speakers such as sub woofers to be concealed away without any adverse effects on performance. Speaker fabric can be used to cover purpose made holes in joinery both for sound and ventilation purposes.
